Skin Cancer Clinic

At North East Family Medicine, Wangaratta, our Skin Cancer Clinic provides assessment and management of skin lesions, including skin checks, biopsies, and minor skin cancer surgery.

The Skin Cancer Clinic is led by Dr Clare Wright, a general practitioner who is accredited through the Skin Cancer College Australasia. Services are provided in accordance with current clinical guidelines and individual patient assessment.

Australia has a high incidence of skin cancer. Assessment of skin lesions may assist in diagnosis and appropriate management.

Services Provided

Skin Checks

Skin checks involve clinical examination of the skin to assess lesions that may require monitoring or further investigation. This may include:

Assessment of new or changing skin lesions
Review of sun-damaged skin
Targeted examination of lesions of concern or full skin examination, where clinically appropriate

Dermoscopy may be used to assist with clinical assessment.

Skin Biopsies

Where clinically indicated, a skin biopsy may be recommended.
A biopsy involves removal of a small sample of skin under local anaesthetic for pathological examination.

Biopsies may be used to:

Assist in diagnosis of skin lesions
Determine the nature of a lesion
Inform further management decisions

The procedure, risks, and follow-up process will be explained prior to proceeding.

Skin Cancer Surgery

Minor skin cancer surgery is available for suitable lesions and is performed under local anaesthetic.
Surgical management is based on clinical assessment and, where applicable, biopsy results.

Not all lesions are suitable for in-clinic management. If further assessment or specialist care is required, appropriate referral will be discussed and arranged.

Appointments and Follow-Up

All assessments and procedures are conducted following informed consent
Patients are requested to complete a skin check questionnaire prior to their appointment
Pathology results are communicated through standard clinical processes
Follow-up appointments are arranged where clinically appropriate

Fees

Skin check appointments range between $178.90 and $219.90 depending on the time taken. The out of pocket cost will be $135
Biopsies may be offered at the time of skin checks – these attract an additional facility fee of $35-$55
Minor skin surgery attracts out of pocket costs of at least $325 depending on complexity of the procedure. Quotes are provided before the procedure
Follow-up appointments are billed at standard clinic fees
