Second Trimester

In the second trimester there are less tests than in the first. You will be offered an ultrasound scan at 20 weeks of pregnancy. This is a detailed scan where the baby anatomy is checked to ensure all is well.

Vaccination for whooping cough is recommended from 20 weeks in every pregnancy. This vaccination is government funded for you and your partner if they have not had a booster in the last 10 years.

Whooping Cough

Vaccination for  respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is recommended between 28 and 36 weeks. It costs approx $330 on a private prescription.

The second trimester is a good time to start thinking about booking in for antenatal classes. These will likely be offered through the hospital you are delivering in. There are other classes available privately such as Calm Birth also.
